I was in a bad accident on my road bike while in a turn and I hit a parked vehicle. I had no reconciliation of hitting the vehicle all I remember was sitting on the ground with my bike on top of me and in pain. I was diagnosed with a neurological problem with a heart rate less than 35 bpm, broken L5 vertebrae and I had passed out.
I was advised not to ride a two wheeled bike, so I sold my Specialized Roubaix and bought a Catrike Dumont from Utah Trikes. Never been happier, my back doesn't hurt any more and when a dizzy spell occurs I just pull over and wait for it to pass. I put on about 25 miles a day and on Sundays I ride with a friend and do 30 miles or better." I also found I meet more people who express interest in my recumbent, two of whom bought recumbents after talking with me.
When asked why he chose a Dumont when he could've picked from any trike Herbert said that "Because of my broken back I needed a trike with full suspension, the Catrike Dumont fit my need. Also, the fact you fold the trike was another feature I liked."
