I had a heart valve replaced 27 years ago. It was a mechanical valve, which required me to take a blood thinner. So any falls on the two wheel bike became very serious. I had a third fall (which were over a 7-8 year period); I didn’t break any bones, but ended up with a huge hematoma on my right hip after the third fall, which took me months to get over. As they say, three strikes and you’re out! I told my wife no more two wheelers, "I can't go through this again". I bought a used Catrike Expedition not really knowing too much about recumbents but it turned out to be a great choice. I was disappointed to be giving up the two wheeler but that attitude changed very quickly when I realized how much fun it is to ride the Catrike recumbent.
We had retired to a community here in Florida called The Villages, which has three very active bike clubs. Last year one of the clubs, the Sumter Landing Bicycle Club, rode more miles than any other bike club in the United States! (verified online by the BikeJournal.com) So for five years I put thousands of miles on the Expedition and two years ago, I helped a friend of mine, Bob Thompson, install an E-kit on it. I am 79 years old now and the E-Cat is extending my biking activity greatly.
As another note, shortly after I bought my Expedition, my wife was riding it around one day and fell in love with it, so we bought another Expedition for her. And as you can guess, after trying my Expedition shortly after we put the E-kit on it, she said, ‘when do I get mine’?
We love our Catrike E-Expeditions and would recommend them to anyone.
